Dar Es Salaam to Lake Victoria

Discombobulated but then delighted when looked out of window waking up this morning and saw a dusty African street.  Banana and nut sellers out already busily hassling the passing cars.  One guy selling windscreen wipers and another lady with a massive plastic bucket on her head.  What balance and so elegantly done.  There is a cluster of motorcycle taxis waiting for their first ride of the day. We were told that this is the cheapest way to get around - "Bada Bada".  Or trade up to a tuktuk.

We loved the airport.  Calm, slow, not that busy, football on the telly.  There is a sleepiness here, everything done at a slower pace and with smiley or bored faces.  Taran was delighted because he could access Netflix (home schooling going well!).  He was also stopped at airport security as he had his penknife in his bag.  No officious confiscation, but instead they thoughtfully got his case back from outside the plane so we could put it in there.  This was no Gatwick.  We didn't even mind the delay.  Kelty bought us a book to learn Swahili so we are all set for Brexit (if that is what you all decide on whilst we are away).  Now near Mwanza at Lake Victoria and definitely settling into African life.  Well maybe just settling in to being on holiday - we are not sleeping under a tyre in the street.  And the lake view infinity pool is fantastic darling!  We're just lucky I suppose.

  1. I'm going to enjoy this very much with just a tinge of jealousy. But who's complaining? I will be in my rapunzel tower in Cadiz for a month! Keep up the writing!
