Speeded swerved survived!

Today was another travelling day.  We woke up and had breakfast only to find a tuktuk waiting for us outside, who took us, via the Royal Palace and Mekong River, to our taxi heading for Battambang.

Thankfully we - seasoned travellers as we are - are by now used to long journeys;  so 4 hours on the rural roads of Cambodia seemed like walking distance.  However, this journey distinguished itself in at least three different categories:  to begin with this was the first time that there was an absence of Marabou stalks or towering Arabic skyscrapers on the roadside; secondly, we were accompanied by another passenger also heading to Battambang (and although none of us could remember her name) she was very generous and smiley even to an extent where she bought us some grilled bananas - YUM!); another thing that we are now accustomed to and are finally relaxed about over our many weeks of travel is that wherever we go, except for Dubai, we always manage to encounter at least one uncannily reckless driver.  But this time there was a resultant incident;  a motorcyclist fell off his bike and nearly went under the car.  If we had been driving 3mph faster we would have run over him and undoubtedly would have seriously injured or possibly killed him - he got off lucky, and possibly the loss of a tip, for that madness hopefully taught our driver a lasting lesson.
