Things we will miss about Battambang

April 11th - Day 66

Things I will miss about Battambang:

1.              The school and the kids
2.              My evening aerobics class
3.              The view from our balcony
4.              Tuk tuk rides.  Passap the Uber equivalent has been indispensable and avoids the exhausting bartering
5.              Cooking at home
6.              Our big orange fan
7.              Our comfortable beds
8.              Lucky supermarket
9.              Berty, Marty and Bobolina the Geckos.
10.          Walking through the streets and being treated like a local
11.          The art galleries
12.          Watching Kelty and Taran enjoying the outdoor shower/hose and bowl
13.          The fridge – because it is cold!
14.          The circus
15.          Jaan Bai restaurant – such delicious food and for a good cause
16.          La Casa – we love their pizzas!
17.      The crazy things they carry on their tuk tuks
18.      The unfulfilled promise of a ride on the never functioning but cheerfully lit up big wheel which we pass by every day

Things I won’t miss about Battambang:

1.              The constant line of visiting ants in our room (that bite)
2.              The cranked up out of tune singing that is bellowed out into the streets at any time of day or night
3.              Hanging out in our dark aircon room on very hot days
4.              The power cuts
5.              Our tiny bathroom
6.              Combing through Taran’s knotted hair
7.              When you want a cold shower and the water comes out hot
8.              When the wind blows and you want to be cooled by it but it is warm
9.         Taking a leap of faith when crossing the road as no-one stops and there are no crossings
10.       Seeing babies on people's laps as they drive

For the record:  Today we visited a Bahai temple with George and Farshah (an English/Singaporian couple who are living out here for 6 months and are both of the Bahai faith).

and Taran cooked a delicious Minestrone soup.

Here is the recipe:

Black beans, Tomatoes, Carrots, Onions, Garlic, Water, Peppers,  olive oil, Mixed Italian spice, Salt, pepper.  Stewed for 2 to 3 hours.   Then garnish with lemon, parmesan and chilli sauce.
